If there’s one thing I’ve learned as a health coach, it’s that true transformation starts from within. The most profound changes come not from what someone else tells you, but from discovering what works for you. And that’s why my #1 advice for 2025 is this:

Yes, bonita, it’s that simple. A journal is your personal tool for self-discovery, self-love, and self-growth. And guess what? When you get to know yourself better, everything else—healthy habits, better choices, a positive mindset—flows naturally.

Let me explain how this tiny habit can spark big changes.

Why Journaling is a Game-Changer

Over the years, I’ve seen incredible transformations in my clients who journal regularly. Here’s why:

1. Know Yourself, Know the Answers

Journaling helps you understand what works for you and what doesn’t. Instead of relying on outside advice, you’ll start to trust your own intuition. When you know yourself, making better choices becomes effortless.

2. A Path to Self-Love

Writing down your thoughts, feelings, and observations fosters self-awareness and compassion. And when you love yourself, you naturally start making healthier, happier decisions.

3. Spot Patterns & Unlock Insights

Your journal becomes a mirror, showing you patterns in your diet, mood, energy levels, and more. It’s like discovering the secrets to your own well-being, one page at a time.

How to Start Your 2025 Journal Habit

Starting doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, it’s the simpler, the better! Follow these steps:

1. Pick a Journal You Love

Your journal should reflect your personality and bring you joy. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but it should be something you enjoy using—like a beautiful notebook that feels special. Treat it like a gift to yourself!

2. Make It Physical

I recommend a paper notebook over digital journaling. Writing by hand creates a tangible connection to your thoughts and helps your brain process them as real and meaningful.

3. Keep It Simple

Begin with this easy exercise:

• Draw a vertical line down the middle of the page.

• In Column 1: Rate your diet for the day on a scale from 1 to 5 (1 = horrible, 5 = excellent). No need to track calories—just go with how you feel.

• In Column 2: Rate your mood and energy levels from 1 to 5 (1 = drained, 5 = vibrant).

That’s it! No pressure, no stress. Just jot down how you feel.

Build the Habit One Step at a Time

For the first month, focus on building the habit of daily journaling. Don’t overcomplicate it. When it feels natural and you’re doing it consistently, you can start adding more details like:

• What you ate (no need for quantities or macros—just list the foods).

• Mood vs. Energy levels: Note if certain foods or activities affect how you feel.

• Exercise, water intake, or other habits you want to track.

The Magic of Self-Discovery

After a few weeks, you’ll start noticing patterns. Maybe eating donuts in the morning makes you sluggish by the afternoon. Maybe a good breakfast boosts your energy all day. These insights are yours, and they’re powerful because you’ve experienced them firsthand.
